Hamden Board of Education member Gary Walsh, has endorsed Republican candidate, Kathy Hoyt, for State Representative in the 88th district. Walsh said that Kathy’s extensive background as an educator and as a school administrator were the key reasons for his endorsement. “We are in unprecedented times right now. The COVID- 19 outbreak has devastated our community and the task of how to reopen our schools is a looming issue. I believe we need someone with experience in education, someone who understands the struggle our schools are going through. Kathy is that person. Kathy’s nearly two decades as a teacher and as a school administrator instills confidence in me that she will be an invaluable asset for our community and a much-needed advocate at the state level for our teachers and children in Hartford.” Walsh continued. “As a teacher for over twenty years, it pains me to see our schools and children constantly used as political bargaining chips by our current state representative in Hartford. Education should not be a political issue; our children deserve better. Our community deserves better; I am confident Kathy will do better.”
Hoyt is a longtime Hamden resident; her children are graduates of the Hamden school system. Hoyt served as a teacher and later as a school administrator for more than two decades. Hoyt currently works as a realtor and small business owner in Hamden. She is also a board member on the Hamden Chamber of Commerce.
